KAON TA! means "Let's Eat!" in Hiligaynon

This blog does not give technical review
of restaurants we go to.

It merely chronicles the dining experience
of two Bacolenos working in Cebu -

Nyss who loves to write and

Geus who loves to take pictures.

Did we mention that we both love to eat?

FOOD:
Geus and I love Thai. We are always on the lookout for delicious curry dishes and pad thai. Blue Elephant is probably one of the nicest Thai restaurants that we've been in when comes to food quality vs. price.

Free Peanuts
Free peanut they served while waiting for our order.

Steamed Seafood Curry in Coconut Shell

Steamed Seafood Curry in Coconut Shell.
A combination of squid, prawn, fish, & scallops with
bell pepper, lemon leaves and basil in red curry.
Uniquely served in a coconut shell.

I don't know if it was just severe hunger pangs but Geus and I think that the Steamed Seafood Curry in Coconut Shell is heavenly. My only complaint is the lack of scallops and the number of shrimps. But I seriously did not mind during that time because the fish was tender and there were lots of squid slices. The sauce was not very spicy but it tasted good because of the abundance of fresh basil leaves.

Pad Thai Noodles

Pad Thai Noodles.
Class Thai rice noodle stir-fried with shrimps,
bean sprouts, tofu, spring onions & egg topped
with crushed peanuts.

The pad thai also tasted good. The only difference between Blue Elephant's Pad Thai and Lemon Grass' Pad Thai is that the latter makes sure that their pad thai has lots of fresh, crunchy bean sprouts. If Blue Elephant can just add more bean sprouts, their Pad Thai would've been perfect. I also love their presentation of the dish. They placed the peanuts and the veggies at the side so that the customers have the option to mix those with their noodles or not.

We were not able to finish the Pad Thai because we got full with their curry already. The serving is not huge but it can serve 2 people.

AMBIENCE/SERVICE:
The service in this restaurant is world-class. I heard that this is also owned by the Krua Thai company but the service is definitely better. Kudos to the management.

When we arrived, they immediately gave us the menu and suggested the specialty of the house. Our order arrived in about 5 minutes which is relatively fast. During the middle of our meal, the waitress approached us and asked us how we are finding our dinner and if we need anything else. After dinner, she asked what we think of the food. I love restaurants with friendly waiters.

Blue Elephant

My only complaint is the blue light that they use in the restaurant. I know that this restaurant's theme is blue but blue light is not really good for the eyes and for the pictures. I got a little bit dizzy with the blue lights. I hope they change that to incandescent for better ambience.

VERDICT:
Nyss I will definitely be back. The food we ordered were still not their specialty so I can't wait to try out their best-sellers.
Geus - Affordable and with great taste. Still craving for the Steamed Seafood Curry in Coconut Shell.
