Carlos Batchoy

FOOD:
Part of the charm of eating batchoy is hearing the snip-snapping sound of the scissors as it cuts the intestines and livers that are the vital ingredients of batchoy.  But they do not do that anymore.  But from where batchoy came from (La Paz, Iloilo) I heard that they still do that.  Still, minus the sciccors part, eating batchoy would be one thing that I'd often do.  And what better way to eat batchoy here in Cebu than to eat it in the most popular Batchoy place - Carlo's Batchoy.
 
Carlo's Batchoy was just a small carinderia-type batchoy place years ago but the branch in Mandaue has improved a lot.  Nowadays, they also serve different kinds of dishes.
 
We ordered Sizzling Bangus.  It was nothing extraordinary since it was not cooked in any special sauce or butter but they gave us a big bangus (milkfish) and the cook put in lots and lots of tomato and onion slices which made the presentation good.

We also ordered Chicharong Bulaklak.  I like their Chicharon Bulaklak because it's not too oily and it's crispy - the way I like my Chicharong Bulaklak cooked.  Just ask them for sawsawan because sometimes they forget to give you one.

Also, the most special part of my meal when eating in Carlo's is that I can ask for a free Batchoy soup for free!  Of course it's just the broth and no noodles or pork or intestines is included.  But it is a good companion for the sisig and the Chicharong Bulaklak. 
 
They also serve Pork Sisig, Chop Suey, Molo, Pancit, and a lot more Filipino Dishes. 
 
AMBIENCE/SERVICE:
Since this is not really a "restaurant" in the strictest sense, the waitresses are not that friendly and I never saw them smile.  But hey, they don't expect tips and you won't feel embarrassed if you don't give one.  They cook their food fast, they serve it fast (there are times when they don't but only if they have lots of customers), and they clean the table fast.  Sometimes though it would take them forever to give you your bill so you'd have to go to the counter and pay for it yourself.  But then again, it's no problem since you are not paying for the service.

The place is clean but since the area is small, it can be too noisy if there are a lot of customers.  I haven't tried using the rest room so I can't say anything about it.
 
The place has a TV tuned in to ABS-CBN all the time.  Just a warning for GMA Network's fans.

The food is definitely worth the price.

VERDICT:
Nyss - I always go here and I don't have any major complaints yet and since the food is cheap, I'd eat here at least once a week.
Geus - I always eat batchoy and pandesal here. It's cheap, namit
and easy access! =)
